The STEM Innovation for Inclusion in Early Education (STEMIE) Center, in partnership with Bridge Multimedia and Fable Vision, recently launched version one of their new web app that seeks to help young children learn about science, technology, engineering, and math by exploring the world around them together with the adults in their lives.

The NAGC recently announced the creation of the James J. Gallagher Memorial Fund, which is designed to address the need for complex, interdisciplinary discussions concerning gifted education. Gallagher, a renowned child development expert, served as the Director of FPG for more than 25 years.

Scholars know that early life stress exposures are associated with adverse health outcomes and heightened anxiety symptoms in adolescents. Wanting to explore this further, FPG's Aysenil Belger, her graduate student Rachel Corr, and an interdisciplinary team of investigators from UNC and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia examined the impact of exposure to multiple categories of victimization (polyvictimization) on brain circuits associated with acute stress responses and contributions to mental health.

The world has changed significantly in the more than 40 years since researchers at FPG developed the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS), now in its third edition. To address these changes and ensure that the rating measures remain relevant and useful in a diverse world, FPG co-principal investigators Noreen Yazejian and Iheoma U. Iruka recently launched a study, “ECERS-3: Identifying Gaps and Equity Challenges.”

The Impact Center at FPG has created an exciting new resource, “Implementation Science at Work.” The podcast, which dropped its initial three episodes in November, explores questions and strategies in implementation science including tackling community health issues, reducing health disparities, and improving community and population outcomes through building capacity.

In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers led by FPG Faculty Fellow Kara Hume, Ph.D., found that a new comprehensive intervention for high school students with autism was more successful in helping them reach educational goals than services typically provided for autistic students.

Researchers at FPG have recently launched the Child Find ACCESS project, a model demonstration to improve services and results for infants, toddlers, and children with disabilities. The project, which aligns with the Institute’s commitment to equity, is designed to address ongoing challenges experienced by states in identifying infants and toddlers needing early intervention services, which has resulted in persistent racial inequities and disparities in identification rates.

A grant recently awarded to the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) at FPG will help ensure students are receiving high-quality mathematics education in middle school—crucial years that can impact students’ chances at successful high school graduation and post-secondary career success.
