April 15, 2024

Congratulations to FPG Faculty Fellow and Founding Director of FPG's Equity Research Action Coalition Iheoma Iruka, PhD, Danielle Allen, PhD, a project director at the Coalition and TK Musa, a graduate research assistant working with the Coalition.

Iruka, Allen, and Musa recently received the Best Article Award from Theory into Practice for their article, African-Centered Education (ACE): Strategies to Advance Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Equitable Learning Opportunities for Young Black Children, which was published in Theory Into Practice in October 2023.

From among all of the articles published in the journal last year, their article was selected by Theory Into Practice's editorial board and editors to receive the award. Allen and Musa (pictured above and below) accepted the award at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) annual meeting held in Philadelphia on April 12, 2024.

The paper is a product of the the work Iruka, Allen, and Musa are doing with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded African-Centered Racial Equity Justice Project: Embracing Culturally Responsive Practices to Improve Early Learning and Child Outcomes.
