Issue 15, June 2018: Supporting Children Who Are Dual Language Learners with Disabilities or Suspected Delays

Dual Language Learners (DLLs) are children who are learning two (or more) languages at the same time, or learning a second language while continuing to develop their first language. This includes all children who have a home language other than English.

Children who are DLLs can benefit from a range of strategies and activities to support their development and learning. These strategies are particularly important for children with disabilities or suspected delays who are also DLLs. Strategies that address both of a child’s languages support their full and effective participation in early learning experiences alongside their peers.
