Free Webinar Features FPG's Dean Fixsen on Scaling Up Interventions

September 29, 2014

On Tuesday, October 14, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm, the Scaling an Effective Intervention: How to Build Implementation Capacity, Replicate with Fidelity, and Produce Consistent Outcomes webinar will feature FPG senior scientist Dean Fixsen, co-founder of the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN). PerformWell, a partnership between the Urban Institute, Child Trends, and Social Solutions, is hosting the free webinar, and registration is now open.

The webinar is designed to help people in the public and nonprofit sectors who want to understand how to produce positive outcomes for a larger population by scaling up existing interventions. Fixsen will speak about what it takes to improve social outcomes on a large scale, including what must be in place in order for an evidence-based program or practice to be replicable; what effective implementation looks like; how to build the necessary implementation capacity to replicate with fidelity; what conditions are required to enable successful implementation; and, how to put in place those conditions. In addition, attendees will learn about active implementation frameworks and their successful use in various contexts.

Fixsen began his career in human services in 1963 as a psychiatric aide in a large state hospital for children with profound developmental delays. He received his doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Kansas in 1970 and has spent his career developing and implementing evidence-based programs, initiating and managing change processes in provider organizations and service delivery systems, and working with others to improve the lives of children, families, and adults. Co-author of the highly regarded monograph Implementation Research: A Synthesis of the Literature, he has served on numerous editorial boards and has advised federal, state, and local governments. Curently, he serves as co-director of FPG's State Implementation and Scaling-up of Evidence-Based Practices Center and as co-chair of the Global Implementation Conference.

Ingvild Bjornvold, director of strategic initiatives at Social Solutions, will moderate the webinar, and Fixsen will answer questions from webinar participants.
