Classroom and Home Contexts of Spanish-English Dual Language Learners' Socioemotional Development

The UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute is partnering with the University of Colorado Denver to propose a secondary data analyses. This project aims to address a research gap regarding the socioemotional development of Spanish-speaking dual language learners (DLLs) attending pre-K settings. The overall objectives of the project are to:

  • identify distinct profiles of patterns of socioemotional development for a group of Spanish-English DLLs;
  • examine how individual characteristics and family contexts (i.e., language use, literacy practices, acculturation) differ across profiles of socioemotional development; and
  • identify which classroom sociocultural contexts (i.e., classroom emotional support, use of strategies for DLLs, teacher’s ethnicity) predict the different socioemotional profiles.
