Partners for Literacy

Partners for Literacy was part of a nationwide study on Even Start programs. It was designed for three- and four-year-old children and their families. It was sequenced, integrated, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate. It had a strong language and literacy focus and was designed to promote children's early literacy development with the goal of enhancing later school success. Consistent with the goals of Even Start programs, it emphasized oral language, vocabulary, letter knowledge, concepts about print, and phonological awareness. There was also a social/emotional component involving problem solving and child management strategies. The intervention ran for 2 years after which effectiveness was evaluated.
