Learners on the spectrum often struggle with learning new skills through imitation and understanding the most important details of an activity. Prompting is an effective practice to increase success and generalizability of target skills or behaviors for learners on the spectrum. Prompts can be used to teach a variety of skills such as pointing to objects, remaining “on task”, writing name, asking questions, raising hand in class, completing math problems, sight-word recognition, and interacting with peers.
