In recognition of Women’s History Month 2025

March 9, 2025

March 8th is International Women’s Day, and the entire month of March is Women's History Month here in the U.S. Women's History Month began in 1981 when Congress requested the President to proclaim a week in March as "Women's History Week." Over the next five years, Congress continued this practice. In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress designated March as “Women’s History Month.” Since 1995, presidents have annually proclaimed March as Women's History Month, celebrating women's contributions and achievements in various fields throughout American history.

Each year, the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) selects and publishes the current theme. The theme for Women's History Month in 2025 is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." According to the NWHA, this year’s theme is intended to highlight women's contributions to education, mentorship, and leadership; honor, inspire, educate, and unite communities; and celebrate the role of women in shaping society.

In honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating all of the inspiring and dedicated women of FPG, who are represented by their work, their publications, through news stories, and more across our website.

Below are links to profile stories featuring some of these incredible women—scientists, specialists, and faculty fellows—whose work in research and evaluation, implementation, technical assistance, and outreach promotes positive developmental and educational outcomes for children of all backgrounds and all abilities from the earliest years here in North Carolina, throughout the United States, and around the world.
