Minnesota FirstSchool Online Course Implementation

The FirstSchool team will deploy an online course to promote student communication in PreK through third grade education. Participants in the online course will include PreK through third grade teachers and administrators. The course will begin in September 2018 and conclude in May 2019. The goals of the course are to:

  • Develop new skills for maximizing opportunities for students to talk and listen throughout the school day and across content areas;
  • Focus on the importance of student voice for children of color;
  • Build a culture of collaborative inquiry for children and adults;
  • Ensure a deeper understanding of the role of student communication in teaching state standards and as a source of formative assessment; and
  • View and use data in new ways to understand children’s school experiences.
