From the abstract: "There has been an increase in policies and funding to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in achieving competitive integrated employment. However, adults with IDD still experience disparities in employment outcomes compared to individuals with other disabilities and the general population. Individuals with IDD have aspirations for employment, and employment is associated with well-being. Thus, identifying strategies to facilitate employment outcomes is a critical need for this population. This chapter aims to review current employment outcomes, services experiences, and facilitators and barriers to employment. We build upon the literature to support the use of a socioecological framework for employment. The goal is for this framework to guide future research with the ultimate goal of supporting employment services for adults with IDD in reaching better employment outcomes."
