McKinney Scholars Program in Research, Practice, and Policy. When Samantha Garcia Cruz transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill two years ago, she was looking for research experience to complement her studies in psychology. She connected with Cathi Propper, PhD, and found a lab that fit her interests and made her feel supported as a student and recognized as an emerging researcher with a talent for community-based research.

Kirsten Kainz, PhD, is a research professor at the UNC School of Social Work and a Faculty Fellow at FPG. Prior to that, she held various roles at FPG, and she has spent both her career as a scientist and personal life as an advocate working to create a more equitable world for children who are part of underserved and underrepresented communities.

The Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) at the UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute has selected 13 new members for its 2021 cohort of 'aRPy Ambassadors' from across the country to help implement official recommended practices for the care and education of young children with disabilities.

Laura Kuhn, PhD, is an advanced research scientist at the UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, working as a methodologist in the Data Management and Analysis Core (DMAC) and as an investigator studying executive functioning in preschool-aged children. She received her PhD in early childhood education from the UNC School of Education.
